Soopna have been on the go since 2004 when Norman, Kenny and Peter got together initially for informal sessions. Norman stays in the same are of Edinburgh as Peter and they both found they shared a common interest in music.
Norman played in folk groups in the early seventies including a spell with Shady Grove. Peter, Kenny and Cass were all ex members of Tartan Whisky and they had been playing together in the late sixties and early seventies. The lads reluctantly split up to pursue their respective careers.
Peter Norman and Kenny all retired around the same time and decided to form a small band to play at family functions and charity events. With Peter's brand of humour and wicked wit and the quality of their playing they soon found that they were in mucher wider demand. The band became regular guests at the Lade Inn at Kilmahog near Callender, www.theladeinn.com. They are now a fixture at the Lade's excellent Hogmany Party and Burns Supper. The band are in high demand at Burns Supper time and they provide a full show of the traditional speeches, addresses, recitals and song.
During the past couple of years Cass has joined the band at several gigs to add a new depth and dimension with his bass playing. He too has recently retired and is now a regular, (except when swaning off on cruises and exotic holidays).
The boys have just launched their debut album "Happy Times" which features eight songs written by Kenny the banjo and Kenny and Peter. The CD was launched at the 2011 Edinburgh Fringe, where the lads played to a sellout audiences, gaining the coveted Edinburgh Fringe Laurel.
Soopna are excellent musicians and singers with a wide and varied repertoire. They are great entertainers which gives the band a wide appeal. They are available for bookings by clubs and for corporate events.
